POSITION:         BUILDING SUPPORT SERVICES SUPERVISOR, 2nd SHIFT

 

POSITION GUIDE:            Non – Certified Personnel

                                         Full-Time 12 Months

                                         Non-Bargaining Unit Position

                                         Exempt 

 

REPORTS TO:                    Director of Facilities/Building Support Services

                                        Assistant Superintendent for Business and Financial Services

 

SUPERVISES DIRECTLY:  Building Engineers

                                         Building Custodians and Task Force

                                         Secretary and Clerical Aide 

                                         Maintenance Personnel 

                                         Truck Drivers

                                         Grounds Personnel 

 QUALIFICATIONS:   

1. Bachelor Degree Preferred / Equivalent with three (3) years related experience.

2. Must pass a physical examination.

3. Knowledge and experience training and mentoring staff.

4. Must be computer literate with experience in Microsoft office.

5. General maintenance/custodial experience.

6. Working knowledge of school building code requirements, including Life Safety Guidelines.

7. Have a general knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, and carpentry.

8. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others

9. Must hold or acquire an IDPH Asbestos License.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be available 24/7 for responding to calls for night and weekend security and fire alarms, reports of vandalism, mechanical alarms and all other district building crisis.
  2. Ensures district meets or exceeds defined expectations for facilities upkeep regarding the buildings and grounds.
  3. Performs daily/nightly inspections of district facilities and makes recommendations for general cleaning/maintenance. Conduct facilities audits at directed daily, weekly, monthly.
  4. Support, formally train and mentor building staff.
  5. Create and administer training courses for building staff regarding buildings and grounds maintenance.
  6. Assist the Director of Facilities/Building Support Services with annual reviews.
  7. Responsible for the coordination of snow removal district wide.
  8. Ensures proper level and storage of maintenance supplies at the buildings.
  9. Coordinates/supervises all after-hours, or weekend work by contractors.
  10. Coordinates with school organizations, committees, and the public with regard to all evening and weekend activities/rentals. Assists with board meetings held within district buildings.
  11. Attend professional development to stay current on facilities equipment and processes.
  12. Cover for Director of Facilities/Building Support Services when not available.
  13. Assists Director of Facilities/Building Support Services in determining appropriate building staff projects for: Institute Days, School Improvement Days, Parent /Teacher Conferences, along with fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks.
  14. Inspect all construction and renovation work to verify that the terms of all contracts have been fulfilled prior to payment of contractor.
  15. Responsible for addressing disciplinary issue including: LOD, Oral Reprimands, Written Reprimands.
  16. Any and all other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Business, or Director of Facilities/Building Support Services or Designee.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items, such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district guidelines by the Director of Facilities/Building Support Services.
