JOLIET PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISTRICT 86 ATHLETIC/ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

 

  1. Responsible/ reports to the Program Coordinator of Athletics and Principal of the junior high school. 

 

  1. Promotes and supports the Social-Emotional, Physical, and Intellectual student outcomes of the Joliet Public Schools District 86 athletic experience for student-athletes.

  2. Annually conducts student-athlete surveys of their coaches for the Program Coordinator and Principal.  The student survey feedback will be utilized to promote improvement goals for the coach and program.

 

  1. Serves as liaison between staff members, administration, members of the community, and other stakeholders when appropriate.

 

  1. Informs the Program Coordinator of potential Athletic Department purchasing needs.

 

  1. Reviews staff requests and make related recommendations to the Program Coordinator and Principal.

  2. Ensures that equipment is properly inventoried and maintained by coaches. Requests athletic departmental purchases to the Program Coordinator.

 

  1. Develops athletic schedules and confirm them with the Program Coordinator and Principal. This includes if additional events are scheduled to confirm with Program Coordinator and Principal.

 

  1. Responsible for administrating all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the Rules and By-Laws of the Illinois Elementary School Association, and the Joliet Public Schools District 86. 

 

  1. Observes coaches sufficiently in order to make recommendations in terms of job expectations and to make recommendations to the Program Coordinator and Principal as to coaches' job assignments. 

 

  1. Responsible for informing the Program Coordinator and Principal of vacant coaching positions.  The athletic director will work in conjunction with the Principal in the hiring process for coaching positions.

 

  1. Responsible for checking the safety of facilities before practices and athletic contests, which shall be directed to the Principal and in collaboration with the Program Coordinator. 

 

  1. Resolves conflicts that develop within the Athletic Department and provides solutions.

 

  1. Submits an equipment and uniform inventory report to the Program Coordinator and the Principal at the end of each school year.  The athletic director will also submit purchasing requests at the beginning of each school year. 

 

  1. Maintains a current file of student-athletes, physical forms, insurance forms, parent consent forms, emergency contact information, etc. 

 

  1. Works with the principal for determining initial and continuing eligibility of student-athletes and coordinates with coaches the monitoring and support of students to meet the academic eligibility to compete in extra-curricular activities. 

 

  1. Works with the principal, cheerleading advisors, and coaches involved in all athletic assemblies and spirit rallies. 

 

  1. Arranges for a Joliet Police Department Officer, when necessary, for home interscholastic events.

 

  1. Represents Joliet Public School District 86 school in all athletic business at District, scheduling conferences, IESA meetings, and other meetings as required such as monthly Athletic Director meetings.

 

  1. Responsible for scheduling and conducting student/parent meetings. Ensure dates are on the Athletic calendar.

 

  1. Constantly evaluates the program, presents recommendations for changes in athletic policies from the Athletic Department to the Program Coordinator, and performs other duties as the Program Coordinator and Principal may direct.
